holidays in hawaii

while much of the country was in a deep freeze over the holidays, the girls spent their's in warm, sunny hawaii visiting their new cousin, auntie, uncle, grandma and grandpa. and, for the first time ever, the girls sat on Santa's lap, although Malia still needed a little hand-holding (literally).

Christmas was fun and the girls had a good time opening presents and playing with auntie..

the frozen yogurt with auntie was pretty good too..

and of course, what would a trip to Hawaii be without some time in the sand and a trip to Matsumoto's...

the girls even got to play pop-pops with auntie and fireworks with uncle and grandpa..

We hope everyone had a good holiday season and we wish you the best for 2010!

school pics

the girls just had their first ever school pictures and they did a good job smiling for the camera. mom and dad however didn't do a very good job of preparing them and let Malia's hair grow a little long. i'm sure she'll be wondering what we were thinking when she gets older... but then again, isn't that one of the reasons to take school pictures???..to question your parents about your clothes, hair style, etc. when you get older..

GOAL!

We recently signed the girls up for soccer and for the last couple of weeks they've spent their Saturday mornings playing... please know that i am using the term "play" very loosely. Most of their time is spend standing around trying to avoid both the dogs on the sideline the crowed of kids running around the ball. The girls absolutely hate it and its a struggle to get them on the field every week. However, since they are still able to wear skirts, they seem to put up with it. And, although they aren't the best players on the team, we think they're the cutest. Their next activity is dance/gymnastics, which we hope goes a little better.

Halloween fairies

Both of the girls went as fairies this Halloween.. we went out with other kids in the neighborhood, but Kiana and Malia skipped out early because they couldn't wait to go home and have some of their treats.

baseball fever

It took nearly the entire season but we finally made it to a Padres game. The girls really enjoyed it (running around and eating junk food that is, they could’ve cared less about the game… just like mom ).

trip to kansas

We recently went back to Kansas to see auntie, uncle, cousins and of course grandpa. the girls were kept busy with lots of activities, including a zoo where they got special attention from "Bre-nana" and "T-Bone" ...

of course what would a vacation be without a trip to the spa... ahh, a fresh set of nails!

trying to give the girls a taste of how dad grew up (everyone in KS lives on a farm.. right? - this is what it seems everyone out here thinks..) we went to a farm where they saw (and milked) cows, feed baby goats, and watched bunnies among other other activities..

unfortunately, the girls had a cold most of the trip which, combined with a long plane ride and a lot of driving, lead to some moments that weren't so pleasant..

dad did get a night for america's favorite pastime. however, i'll assure you not many innings were like the pics below..

dad and kiana checking out the new digs at the ballgame..

how many times can we go down the water slide??? i guess it makes the swim classes worthwhile...

the girls even got to spend the night with auntie and bre!

the girls seemed to have a really good time with grandpa and the cousins and continue talking/asking about them. they seem eager to come back again.. next time mom and dad they want to have more sleepovers!

first day of school

the girls have their first day of school today.. they were very excited about it beforehand, but this excitement seemed to diminish once we actually got there. fortunately they have each other to help with the change. although they've been going to daycare for almost 2 yrs now, they'll now be in larger group with more children their age, a more structured class and bringing their own lunch bag (not sure if this is good or bad for mom and dad). when we left the girls seemed to be taking it all in… while mom and dad were a little sad to see them make the change.
